Business House Volleyball 2K9:June 21

The Jamaica Defense Force, Bank of Jamaica and National Water Commission all recorded two wins as action in both the Mixed and Male Divisions continued in week three of the Reggae Jammin Business House Volleyball Competition at the UWI Gymnasium on Sunday June 21.

In match one of the day's play, BOJ got the first of its two wins defeating UWI 2-0 in the Mixed Division 21-17, 21-17.   Greg Stewart of BOJ had 9 scores which included 7 kills, 1 ace and a block, his teammate Michael Clarke was named match MVP.

In the second Mixed Division match of the day, NWC  swamped Guardian Life "B" 2-0 following a 21-17, 21-19 win.
It wasn't NWC’s typically aggressive style of play, however it were able to pull through. Guardian's Roger Downer had 2 scores in the match, 1 kill and a block, while his teammate David Lamont took the MVP honors.

Game three was a Male encounter between the JDF and BOJ, and it was the army men who came up trumps with a 2-0 win. National Female Volleyball coach Gatasheu Bonner was the game's MVP as his teammate Demar Pinnock put up 7 scores on the board with 5 kills and 2 blocks.

The National Water Commission got its second win of the day when it got the better of AMECO 2-0 in a Male Division encounter. The water men were pushed all the way by their lesser fancied opponents, and barely came away with a 21-20, 21-9 victory. It took Ray Lawrence who had 3 scores including 3 kills and match MVP Raymond Gibbs to close the deal.

Like NWC, the JDF chalked up its second win, tagging UWI 2-0 in a Mixed Division matchup. Once again Gatasheu Bonner had an MVP like performance with 12 scores including 6 kills, 1 ace and 5 blocks. That effort led to JDF's 21-15, 21-14 win.

The final game of the day may have provided the most excitement, as BOJ was pushed all the way by Guardian "A" in their Mixed match encounter. The opening set saw BOJ jump out to a 21-12 first set win, however Guardian "A" rallied to take the second set 21-12 thanks largely to Jada Wishart who delivered strong serves throughout the set.
Despite taking the MVP honors, Wishart was unable to replicate the second set form as her team went down 21-16 and a 2 sets to 1 loss. BOJ's Craig Stewart was inspirational in the win for the bank team with 7 scores including 6 kills and an ace.

And so with the completion of the Male first round double round robin format, JDF leads the standings with 9 points. That's two more than BOJ in second with 7, while NWC is in third spot with 5 and AMECO holding 3.

In the Mixed Division, JDF continues to run away with the lead with 15 points, they are followed by UWI with 9, NWC 8, BOJ 7, Guardian "A" 6 and Guardian "B" 3.

The JDF and UWI have completed their fixture in the division and NWC, BOJ, and the Guardian teams will complete their fixture on Sunday June 28.

The league is sponsored by Reggae Jammin with assistance from Flora, Supreme Ventures, Hart Hill Juices, Cooyah, Excelsior Biscuits and Matate Holdings.
